FSRACA Conference Melbourne Aug 9th – 11th 2023 – Recap from Leanne Bunter

I recently attended the FSRACA conference held in Melbourne at Centrepiece. This was a fantastic venue and catered for all the guests and speakers with ease.

On the first day of the conference Mr David Nash announced a new Scholarship to remember & honour Mrs Teressa Normington.

The “Teressa Normington WFHSS Scholarship” will help members get to world conferences that would off not been able to, it’s a substantial $5,000 sponsorship and a great way to honour her memory.

I really enjoyed the 1st motivational speaker Mr Mark Squirrel. He had me fully engaged with his inspirational life story and showed how in challenging times he managed to overcome some very confronting situation with his work for the World Health Organisation. He travelled through the North Africa and the Middle East to help starving people in great poverty. He told the story of how he managed to raise global recognition for the World Health Organisation by Climbing Mount Everest and the challenges he and his team faced along the way. Extremely inspirational, I really enjoyed his presentation and the message I took away was to never give up, anything’s possible…

Next we met Sulisti Holmes and she was a real character, she managed a large hospital in Glasgow. She shared some difficulties in her hospital with the sterilisation field & how she and her team tackled them to make the necessary changes. Sulisti and her team did not give up and were finally reward by having an instrument changed so it could now be properly cleaned.

There were many very interesting speakers over the two days relating to issues within our industry covering issues from the Covid 19 pandemic to Biofilm and how difficult it is to kill.

The FSRACA Conference dinner was held at the MCG on the Thursday evening. It was a great night with an amazing band called the Mad Cow.

I have learned so much and got to network with people within the field from all over Australia and New Zealand. I’ve really enjoyed the FSRACA conference and am very grateful for the opportunity to attend.
